Moscow has responded to Lukashenka’s threats

Russia does not question the policy of expanding strategic cooperation with Belarus. On Friday, 11 January, said the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, her words leads to “Interfax”.

As said Zakharov, Belarus is “a reliable ally and partner” of Russia. “This is enshrined, in particular in the foreign policy concept of our country,” she said.

Foreign Ministry spokesman also expressed confidence that in the framework of the Union state there are many opportunities to improve the efficiency “of this integration format.”

Thus Zakharov commented on the statement of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko that Russia may lose the only ally in the Western direction, if the parties fail to reach agreement on compensation in connection with the tax maneuver in the oil sector.

In December last year, Lukashenko said that according to his calculations, due to the Russian tax maneuver in the oil industry in the coming years, Belarus will lose about 10.5 billion dollars. However, he lamented the fact that Moscow refuses to pay the Minsk compensation.

Tax maneuver in the Russian oil industry assumes the abolition of the export duties with a parallel increase in the tax on mineral extraction (met) in the result of the maneuver Belarus will buy Russian oil at world prices.
