The investigation of the case of the arrested Ukrainian soldiers accused of illegal crossing of the Russian border, was extended. On Saturday, January 12, TASS reported a source close to the investigation.
“The term of investigation on criminal case is prolonged till may 25”, — told the Agency interlocutor, adding that the investigation insists on the extension of the arrest of the accused for 3 months, i.e. till April 26.
In December last year, the Kremlin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said that the detained Ukrainian sailors are not prisoners of war. He stressed that we are talking about defendants in the criminal case.
24 Ukrainian sailors were detained by the border Department of the FSB of Russia in the Kerch Strait on 25 November 2018. That day three ships of naval forces of Ukraine — boats “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol” and the tug “Yana Kapu” — crossed the Russian border, did not respond to requests to stop and began a dangerous maneuver, in connection with which the border guards had to apply force against them. All the detained sailors were arrested for two months, they were transported to Moscow.
