The opposition party “Belarusian popular front” (BNF) has announced a year of the Belarusian language and urged citizens to actively use it to prevent “information attacks” and keep independence of the country. This is stated in the statement published on the official website of the BNF.

According to opposition representatives, it is necessary to take specific measures in view of the fact that the media were more likely to talk about the Union state of Russia and Belarus. In particular, they urge citizens to improve the knowledge of the Belarusian language and authorities — to expand its use in the education system and legislation, and to update the net television broadcasting by adding more private or foreign content.

“We demand from the Belarusian authorities to restrict the broadcast of Russian TV channels that incite ethnic hatred and, in essence, are means of information war against our country”, — said in a statement.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and creation of the CIS within the organization was the enhancement of bilateral relations of Russia and Belarus. In 1996 was founded the Community of Russia and Belarus in a year was signed the Treaty of Alliance between the two countries, and in 2000 came into force the agreement on creation Union state.

The document implied the formation of a unified political, economic, military, customs, currency, legal, humanitarian and cultural space. Including the supposed unification of legislation, state symbols and currency, as well as the creation of a unified Parliament and other authorities.

Russian language in Belarus is one of the two official languages. This status he got after the last 1995 referendum. Then for making Russian language a state status voted 83.3% of the population.
