The armed conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine should be resolved as soon as possible. This statement Monday, 14 January, at a meeting with the leader of the movement “Ukrainian choice” Viktor Medvedchuk was made by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

“It was a misunderstanding (otherwise not be called) need to be done. Sister Republic, the people… are Doing to our enemies and rivals gift with your own hands,” said the Belarusian leader.

The President of Belarus explained that he is interested in the soonest settlement of the conflict and for personal reasons. “It’s important to me not only because I personally care about what is happening there, but because it is our native Ukraine. I have served many times I have been there, and not hide the fact that my ancient roots are somewhere between Chernigov and Kiev”, — said Lukashenko.

In addition, he said, is a factor in the relations between Minsk and Kiev. “Still the basis of all are our relations with Ukraine. And in the beginning of this conflict, according to our data, and we clearly maintain records, up to 150 thousand people flooded from Ukraine. And we have provided them with equal conditions and rights with our Belarusians. Although if it was easy. But, thank God, nothing happened. Someone returned, and someone goes here and there, and someone settled, living and working here as our loved ones, native people. There are negative factors happening there,” — said Lukashenko.

In 2018 Lukashenko has said several times that Minsk is ready to join the conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions and to take peace for themselves. In December, the Belarusian leader said that his proposals on monitoring Russian-Ukrainian border and conduct of the elections in the Donbass (Minsk was ready to take control on the border itself, as well as to accompany the holding of elections in the region) did not find support from the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
