Germany refused to interfere with the construction of the “Nord stream-2”

Germany will not interfere in the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2”, despite the pressure of other States. This was stated by the Minister of economy Peter Altmaier in an interview with Handelsblatt.

According to the Minister, in Germany there are no legal grounds for intervention in the project. Altmaier sure that the construction of the pipeline will not prevent the transit of gas through territory of Ukraine.

January 13, U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenel sent to the German companies of the letter, which pointed out the danger of the “Nord stream-2”. Among other things, he noted that the business threaten reputational costs and the risk of sanctions, but added that the message should be perceived not as a threat but as “an expression of US policy”.

In response, Obama said that threats to the companies are inadmissible unilateral tightening of tone in transatlantic relations. The parliamentarians called on the Federal government to Express US protest.

“Nord stream-2” project of a gas pipeline that will link Russia and Germany under the Baltic sea. The total capacity of the project is estimated at 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The pipeline is scheduled for late 2019.
