Kazakhstan boxer-Middleweight Gennady Golovkin and Mexican Saul Alvarez agreed to hold a re-match. This was reported on the page of the world Boxing Council (WBC) on Twitter.
The fight will take place on 5 may 2018. The venue is still unknown.
The first fight between Golovkin and Alvarez took place in September 2017 and ended in a draw. One of the judges gave the victory to the Mexican (118:110), the second — his opponent (115:113), and a third thought that the match ended in a draw (114:114). At stake was the title of champion in the Middleweight version of the world Boxing Council (WBC), world Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF). As a result, the belt remained with the Kazakhstan boxer.
The judges ‘ decision was criticized. Adelaide Byrd gave the win to Alvarez, was suspended from work.
