French actress Catherine Deneuve apologized to victims of sexual harassment, which insulted her support for the right of men to molest women. In an open letter published in the newspaper Liberation she stressed that it continues to adhere to their views despite the criticism.

Deneuve explained that the treatment which she signed earlier in January, never justified rape and sexual harassment. The letter condemns the processes in which due to the unproven allegations on the Internet people lose their jobs and persecuted in the media, said the actress.

“I don’t like the characteristic of our time, when each thinks it has the right to judge others,” said Deneuve. She added that signed the appeal, because it is afraid of “cleaning in art”.

On 10 January it was reported that Deneuve and 99 famous French women defended men accused of sexual harassment because of the obsessive flirting. Women said that “attempts to seduce someone, even persistent and clumsy” can’t be a crime.
