Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko in an interview with NewsOne TV channel said that in the Crimea, and also on uncontrollable Kiev territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions live “millions of hostages of Russia”. Video is available on YouTube.
“We are talking about what hostages of the Russian Federation are millions of Ukrainians who live in Crimea, millions of Ukrainians who live in the occupied part of Donbass. They are all hostages”, — said Gerashchenko in the Verkhovna Rada.
He believes that Ukraine should systematically conduct de-occupation of these territories with the help of economic sanctions and legal prosecution of the Russian Federation, in particular the official recognition of Ukraine as an aggressor. “Because it is a nonsense that we have occupied Donbas with Russia’s support — economic, military, political — and we still do not recognize this legally and do not recognize this law,” he added.
Earlier Tuesday, the Parliament failed to vote for an amendment to the bill on the reintegration of Donbass in which the self-proclaimed Donetsk (DPR) and Luhansk (LPR) people’s Republic is recognized as “terrorist organizations”. During the vote for the amendment spoke only 76 of 340 deputies present in the room.
The document establishes the status of Russia as the aggressor, and establishes the concept of “Russian occupation authorities”. It also allows to send troops to use armed forces at any time and indefinitely, gives the President the authority to declare martial law.
