Two-time world champion in skiing Sergey Ustyugov, not included in the list invited by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the Games in 2018 in Pyeongchang, spoke about the support of the foreign athletes on the page in Instagram.
“99 percent of foreign athletes are supporting us and will be disappointed not seeing us at the start. It’s not their decision, it was not their fault,” wrote Ustyugov in response to the comment of one of the subscribers.
On 23 January, the IOC didn’t include Ustyugov on the guest list for the Olympics athletes. The skier was not suspected anti-doping rule violation, his name was not mentioned during the investigation of the IOC. Committee member Christine Kloster was unable to explain the reason for refusing the invitation of the athlete. Besides Ustyugov, no invitations to the Game were biathlete Anton Shipulin, short-tremist Viktor Antonov, the number of Russian skaters, figure skaters and hockey players.
25-year-old Ustyugov is a two-time world champion in the team sprint and skiathlon. Skier also won three silver medals and one bronze medal of the world championship. He won the Tour de Ski-2017.
