National Olympic Committee of Germany was delighted with the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) not to allow acquitted by the court of arbitration for Sport (CAS) Russian athletes at the Games in Pyeongchang. It is reported by Merkur.
“This is good news. I am glad that the IOC didn’t invite them, contrary to the decision CAS. IOC the opinion that these athletes — participants of the doping system in Russia”, — said the head of the German delegation Dirk Schimmelpfennig.
The NOC of Germany supported Shimmelpfennig: “This is a good and important signal of equal opportunity for all athletes and athletes, as well as consistent international anti-doping”.
On 5 February the Commission the IOC has refused the invitation to the Olympics in Pyeongchang 13 Russian athletes and 2 coaches, justified CAS. The Committee unanimously adopted this decision.
February 1, CAS upheld the appeal 28 Russian athletes and restored their results shown at the Olympics in Sochi. As a result, the Russian Olympic Committee asked the IOC to send them invitation to Games.
