The leader of the Radical party in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleg Lyashko suggested that Poland could put forward territorial claims to Ukraine. He declared it on air of TV channel “112 Ukraine”, the video is available on YouTube.
Commenting on the promise of the Polish President Andrzej Duda to sign a law banning “propaganda of Bandera ideology” in Poland, Lyashko said: “Maybe today it sounds fantastic, but given the policies that today are chauvinistic circles in Poland, I do not exclude the extension of territorial claims to Ukraine from Poland”.
“Poland from a lawyer and a powerful ally of Ukraine into a weak state, where prevail the forces and ideas that weaken the Poland” — said the MP.
On Tuesday, February 6, Andrzej Duda promised to sign the law on the Institute of national remembrance. The document envisages the introduction of criminal liability for the denial of the participation of Ukrainian nationalists and members of Ukrainian organizations who collaborated with the Third Reich, crimes against poles in the period from 1925 to 1950. Violators will face a fine or imprisonment for up to three years. Exceptions are made only for artistic works and scientific debate. After signing by the President the law will be sent to the constitutional court of Poland.
The fighters of the Ukrainian insurgent army (UPA; the military wing of the organization of Ukrainian nationalists, OUN) in 1943 organized the so-called Volyn massacre — the ethnic cleansing of the Polish population. According to various estimates, the victims of the massacres began from 30 thousand to 100 thousand people. One of the OUN leaders was Stepan Bandera.
