The head of the American company SpaceX Elon Musk revealed the plans for the future super-heavy carrier rocket Falcon Heavy. It is reported by SpaceNews with the security conference on its first run.
The businessman said that one of the major goals of the launch will be a demonstration of U.S. air force capabilities for the Falcon Heavy spacecraft to be placed directly into geostationary orbit and in deep space. In particular, the second stage of the carrier along with the payload will perform a six-hour maneuvers in earth orbit, accompanied by work in extreme conditions (passing through the radiation belts of the Earth).
Also, the Falcon Heavy will send the payload — the Tesla Roadster is on an elongated orbit that intersects the trajectory of the movements of Earth and Mars. The probability to bring it directly into interplanetary orbit, Musk called extremely low. In the case of the success of this project in 2018 will be another two launches of the Falcon Heavy. We are talking about missions Arabsat 6A (Saudi Arabia) and Space Test Program 2 (for the USAF).
The worst-case scenario, according to the Mask, is the explosion of the Falcon Heavy for the launch pad that will lead to the last repair, which will take 9-12 months. Possible problems with a super-heavy rocket, the businessman sees the simultaneous operation of the 27 engines of heavy missiles.
Musk said that SpaceX could build the Falcon Heavy is still more than lifting the Falcon Super Heavy due to the increase in the number of boosters. But now the company concentrates on the development of the BFR (Big Falcon Rocket), work which, according to the businessman, going in a faster pace. For this reason, SpaceX has no plans to certify the Falcon Heavy for manned launches.
The businessman confirmed that SpaceX will be able to collect as many rockets, the Falcon Heavy as you need customers, and their cost will be comparable to the price of the Falcon 9.
The launch window for the first launch of the Falcon Heavy will open on 6 February 2018 at 21:30 Moscow time and will close at midnight. The probability of start-up Mask is estimated at 70-80 percent, the chances of its success is 50 percent.
