The head of the Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the admission of the Russian athletes at the Games in Pyeongchang Valerie Fourneyron told about new athletes whose names are associated with doping. Her words leads to “Sport-Express”.
“Our task is not to prevent competition those athletes who were suspected of use of illegal drugs. We excluded 50 coaches and 10 members of the medical staff of the Russian delegation. We also found a few new athletes associated with doping, whose names had not been mentioned in the reports,” said Fourneyron.
5 Feb IOC President Thomas Bach said the reasons for the rejection of the acquitted court of arbitration for Sports (CAS), the Russian athletes at the Olympics in Pyeongchang. According to him, the decision of the CAS in relation to athletes is not enough to receive an invitation to the Games.
February 1, CAS overturned the IOC decision on lifelong disqualification 28 Russian athletes and restored their results from the Olympics-2014. Another 11 athletes were found guilty of violating anti-doping rules, for them a lifetime suspension was replaced with suspension from Games in 2018. The issue of admission of Russians to the Olympic games of 2018 was decided by the IOC, whose work was based on the reports of the world anti-doping Agency.
Games will be held in Pyeongchang from 9 to 25 February. Russian athletes will take part in the Games under the Olympic flag and the special status of “Olympic athlete from Russia.”
