Frame: the movie “Inferno»
According to the findings of scientists from the University of California at San Diego, in the middle of the XXI century will start the Grand minimum of solar activity, with the result that the Ground will be less heat. The scientific results published in The Astrophysical Journal, press release available on the website Phys.org.
The heating of the planet will slow down, but that won’t stop global warming, the researchers note.
The researchers analyzed data collected over 20 years orbital space telescope International Ultraviolet Explorer, which operates in the ultraviolet range. They measured the radiation of solar-type stars, to identify the conditions preceding the great lows. It turned out that the reduction in activity can be predicted by the frequency of formation of sunspots.
According to the researchers, the probability of the Grand solar minimum in the near future is quite high. However, the global cooling that happens on Earth in this case will not be strong enough to compensate for the increase in the average temperature due to greenhouse gas emissions.
Astronomers believe that the possible repeat of Maunder minimum, which occurred during the period 1645-1715 years and was characterized by a small number of sunspots. Some experts attribute this to the onset of the little ice age, during which global temperatures dropped by 1-2 degrees Celsius.
