Court of arbitration for sport (CAS) has published the reasoning part of the decision for 47 Russian athletes and coaches, who were not admitted to the Olympic games 2018 in Pyeongchang. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

The statement noted that the Board found no evidence that the Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), engaged in the invitation of the Russians at the Olympics in 2018, has acted unfairly or unreasonably. “Any application needs to be approved by the IOC, which may at its discretion to refuse the applicant without giving reason. Nobody is guaranteed the right to participate in the Olympic games”, — the document says.

“CAS has not experienced any pressure from any side in the decision-making process. CAS will continue to defend its independence,” said the court Secretary Matthieu Reeb.

February 9, CAS did not satisfy the appeal, 45 Russian athletes and two coaches on non-admission to the Olympic games in Pyeongchang. The court refused to consider the removal of the Russians the IOC unjust, calling it a “fair decision.”

In December 2017 the Committee suspended for life from the Olympics a few dozen athletes from Russia for violating anti-doping rules at the Olympic Games in Sochi. Direct evidence of the guilt of the athletes were not given. Later, the CAS annulled the verdict, replacing the lifetime ban to a suspension from Games in 2018.
