The Pentagon has refused claims to the emergence of “Iskander” near Kaliningrad

Deployment in the Kaliningrad region operatively-tactical complexes “Iskander” does not violate any bilateral agreements between the USA and Russia. About this in an interview with TASS said the representative of the Ministry of defense johnny Michael.

While in the us military noted that accommodation in the region of ballistic short-range missiles is “an unfortunate destabilizing step, contributing to the heightening of tensions between Russia and its neighbors”.

On 5 February the Minister of defence of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis said that Russia deploys in the Kaliningrad region operational-tactical missile complexes (PTRC) “Iskander” for permanent basing. Later information was confirmed by the Chairman of the Russian state Duma Committee on defense Vladimir Shamanov.

Operational-tactical missile system 9K720 “Iskander-M” was developed in 1990-ies and adopted in 2006. Is produced by replacing outdated systems 9K79 “Tochka” (9K79-1 “Tochka-U”). The range of the missile is 500 km for the export version — 280 kilometers.
