The Minister of youth and sports of Ukraine Igor Zhdanov urged fans not to go to the world Cup in Russia. His words are quoted isport.ua.
“I want to encourage our fans not to go there. Especially members of the ATO (anti-terrorist operation — primas’. “Tapes.ru”). I think we can make a General statement from the foreign Ministry, the SBU (security Service of Ukraine — primas’. “Tapes.ru”) that this is not necessary,” — said Zhdanov.
According to the politician, two years ago the world community was close to take away the right to host the world Cup in Russia. “When did the trials against the former leadership of FIFA, change, allegations of corruption in the granting of the right to host the world Cup. I thought, then what is this decision”, — he explained.
The Minister was unhappy with the fact that the campaign against Russia was asleep. “Six months before the world Cup. I think that the issue from the agenda removed. Although, from the point of view of our national interests, we did everything to this championship did not take place in Russia. But our options here are very limited,” he said.
In January the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin expressed the desire to boycott the world Cup in Russia. According to him, Ukraine is in talks with football federations and fan organisations about the possibility of a boycott or protests during the event.
The 2018 world Cup will be held from 14 June to 15 July at 12 stadiums in 11 cities of Russia.
