The Czech national team in biathlon refused to perform at the final stage of the world Cup in Tyumen, which will be held in March 2018. This was announced by the President of the Union of biathletes of the Czech Republic jiří Hamza, reports sport.cz.

“It will be wrong if we reject their position,” he said. The functionary added that the Czech athletes do not want to be in the shadow of the doping scandal in another country, “which is not even punished for it.”

The failure of the Czech Republic to compete can lead to a reduction in the quota for her next year. However, Hamza said that the decision to boycott was a common and athletes want to “save face”.

He also commented on the refusal of France from the boycott. “The French have said that they will go to Tyumen, because Martin Fourcade goes to victory in the world Cup,” explained Hamza.

Earlier, the Federation of biathlon, the US made an official statement on the boycott of the world Cup 2017/2018, which will be held in the Russian city of Tyumen. In particular, the Americans said they worry about their safety. The representative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has issued a warning statement.
