Mass grave of Christians found in Mosul

A mass grave with the remains of the 40 Christians were found near Mosul in Northern Iraq. It is reported by Al Ghad Press.

According to sources of the portal in the Syrian Orthodox Church, a mass grave was found West of the city, security forces and militias of Iraq. As reported in it were buried the Christians previously kidnapped in the region.

Among the discovered there the remains of women and children. Together with them, also found small crosses.

In March 2017 an Anglican priest Andrew white, a former rector of a Church in Baghdad, said about the disappearance of Christianity in Iraq. He left the country because of the threat to life.

In recent years, the number of the Christian population of Iraq has fallen sharply. Before the US invasion in 2003, there were about 1.5 million Christians in 2017 — less than 250 thousand. During the battle for Mosul in the city was no more than two dozen people, and ten years before that, 35 thousand.

About a full sweep of Mosul from the militants of the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia) is announced in July 2017. In December, Prime Minister of Iraq declared victory over ISIS in the country.
