Austria complained to the requirement of Britain to expel Russian diplomats

The British Ambassador in Austria, Vienna has repeatedly expressed its protest due to the failure to expel Russian diplomats in connection with the case of the former GRU Colonel Sergei Skripal. This was stated by Minister of foreign Affairs Karin Kneissl, reports

According to her, the head of the British Embassy tried to force the Austrian authorities to take concrete measures. However, she clarified that the agreement with the Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz Vienna will not at the national level to expel Russian diplomats.

Kneisl added that the decision of the Austrian authorities has nothing to do with concerns about possible countermeasures by Moscow. “In critical moments we need to leave open channels [for dialogue],” added the Minister.

On March 26, the United States declared persona non grata 60 Russian diplomats and decided to close the Consulate General in Seattle in connection with the poisoning of the former GRU Colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter. Also about the expulsion of employees of diplomatic missions announced Australia, Ukraine, Canada and more than a dozen EU countries.

Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia was discovered unconscious in a Park in British Salisbury on 4 March. As it turned out, they were poisoned with nerve agent. London has accused Russia, Moscow rejects the allegations.
