Russia and China will merge, GLONASS, and BeiDou

Russia and China on the basis of GLONASS and BeiDou can create a United system of satellite navigation. The relevant negotiations will be held in may 2018 at a conference in Harbin (China), according to “Izvestia”.

With the proposal to combine GLONASS and BeiDou to the “Roscosmos” appealed State Commission on Chinese satellite navigation system. This initiative involves the creation of a unified system of monitoring of global navigation satellite systems, acting on the space of States of the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO).

An integrated system will allow real-time exchange of data on the groups of navigation satellites, their health, the quality of the signals to give each other corrective amendments. In this case the GLONASS could greatly expand the number of users.

“In case of realization of this scenario it will allow multiples to increase the accuracy when using the consumers of two global navigation satellite systems,” — said the representative of “Roscosmos”.

According to a member of the expert Council under the government of Russia Andrei Ionin, in the future the whole world will be divided into zones of influence of the two integrated standards — GLONASS/BeiDou, and the American-Western European GPS/Galileo. The expert positively assessed the prospects of Russian-Chinese cooperation in this field.

The SCO unites Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan.
