Implementation of the project “Northern stream-2” is not possible without determining the future of the Ukrainian transit. This was stated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a joint briefing with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, informs television channel “112 Ukraine”.
According to Merkel, Germany considers it important to maintain gas supplies through Ukraine. “We also spoke with the President of Russia and expressed the confusion of Ukraine. But of course, we are talking about that part of the gas will go through the Ukrainian territory, i.e. transit through the territory of Ukraine remains important. Of course, here we have to consider the political component of this issue,” she said.
The German Chancellor on April 9 discussed the draft of a new pipeline in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier, Poroshenko warned Germany on the construction of “Nord stream-2” and suggested that the transit of gas.
The transit of gas through territory of Ukraine will be much cheaper and “can be easily and advantageously upgraded”, says the head of the state: “Just ask us instead to invest ten billion euros in the “Nord stream-2″”.
In late March the Federal office of Germany for navigation and hydrography issued a permit for the construction and operation of a new pipeline on German territory.
“Nord stream-2” project of a gas pipeline that will link Russia and Germany under the Baltic sea. The total capacity of the project is estimated at 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The pipeline is scheduled for late 2019.
