Russia found a replacement Ukrainian engine for Mi-26

Ukrainian engine transport helicopter Mi-26 will replace the Russian. The car will be equipped with a new engine by the year 2025. About this “Interfax” said an informed source.

It is noted that the preliminary design of the engine PD-12V for replacement of the Ukrainian D-136 completed in 2017. In 2018, we intend to complete the technical design, including the necessary design documentation.

“As expected, the ground and flight-testing of helicopter engine with PD-12V will be held in 2023-2025 years, and then begin its serial production,” — said the Agency interlocutor.

According to him, the PD-12V will be more powerful than foreign counterparts, and will improve the flight characteristics of the Mi-26. The engine is created on the basis of the gas generator turbofan prospective PD-14, the source added.

On the replacement of Ukrainian engine for Mi-26 domestic analogue was discussed even in 2016. Then the General Director of “Helicopters of Russia” Alexander Mikheyev said that it was “a question solved”.

Mi-26 — Soviet and Russian multipurpose heavy transport helicopter. Its serial production and operation began in 1980. Actively used in Afghanistan, Chechnya, in the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident.
