Ukraine increased imports of coal and anthracite from Russia to 62 percent. It is reported by UNN, citing data from Ukrainian fiscal service.
The results of seven months of 2018 Kiev imported Russian coal in the amount of $ 1.1 billion. In 2017, Ukraine has bought from Russia coal for $ 1.5 billion.
The second and third position among the countries that supply these raw materials to Ukraine, took the U.S. (import share of about 31%) and Canada (about 2.5 percent).
In 2017, Ukraine introduced a state of emergency in the energy sector due to the shortage of anthracite. Coal supplies from the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk people’s Republic was completely stopped due to organized Kiev’s transport blockade. Ukraine started to buy coal from third countries, including South Africa and the USA.
