Golfscope University scientists came to the conclusion that the recommendations of the Ministry of agriculture of the United States, according to which should be consumed low-calorie food with little saturated fat, impossible for mankind. The reason researchers call an acute shortage of fertile land, and the global transition to healthy eating will cause the food crisis. The authors, who published in the journal PLOS One.
Scientists have shown that the implementation of the recommendations of the Ministry will require an additional billion hectares of cropland, which is comparable with the area of Canada. In addition, based on current agricultural practices, the countries of the Eastern hemisphere will significantly increase the area of used land, then to the Western countries and Oceania giving up meat and switching to a grain diet would save on existing agricultural lands.
According to researchers, the recommendations should take into account not only the influence on the organism of healthy food, but also the cultural and economic peculiarities of different countries. In addition, measures should be taken to prevent future global shortage of land and water, for example, the development of drought-resistant crops and a more efficient allocation of water between regions.
