Ukrainian railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia is ready to stop communication with Russia, if the authorities take such a decision. This is stated in the response to the request of the newspaper “Today”.
It is noted that in the “Ukrzaliznytsia” ready to execute “any decision from above.” Also, the company stated that every year the number of passengers from Ukraine to Russia, is declining.
According to the company, in 2017, the trains of “Ukrzaliznytsya” in Russia was transported 900 thousand Ukrainians. This figure is five times less than in 2013, the company said.
Also stresses that tends to decrease traffic flow is maintained. For seven months of 2018 in Russia, the trains of “Ukrzaliznytsya” went 454,1 thousand Ukrainians, which is 16.4 percent less than the same period last year.
The company noted that currently, between Ukraine and Russia runs 13 pairs of trains. Eight of them — the formation of “Ukrzaliznytsya”, three “Railway of Moldova”, and one each of Russian Railways and the Azerbaijan Railways.
On 6 August about the fact that Kyiv is considering the termination of railway communication with Moscow, said the Minister of infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan. He later reported that the authorities intend to discontinue passenger-only railway communication with Russia, cargo traffic restrictions will not affect. Also Omeljan stressed that the Ministry of infrastructure has sent its proposals for consideration to the government.
