The object shot down by Syrian air defense forces (PVO) over the province of Damascus was an Israeli drone. It is reported by Al-Masdar.

As reported by a military source, the drone flew over the area of Deir al-Ashaer in the West of the province, before he was hit. Likely, the drone was doing reconnaissance. It is noted that last week the Syrian air defenses have shot down a similar drone, but its wreckage has not been found.

That Damascus shot down an enemy object previously reported by the Agency SANA. The incident occurred after midnight near the Syrian-Lebanese border.

On 2 August the General staff of the Russian armed forces announced that it again will put the posts of the military police in the Golan heights, former Syrian territory seized by Israel after the six day war of 1967. The work of peacemakers in the region has been frozen for six years.

Syria and Israel are technically at war since 1973. However, armed border conflicts were extremely rare before the civil war in Syria. May 8, Israel put its troops on high alert to attack from Syria, launched air defense and ordered to open bomb shelters on the Golan heights. Later, the air force fired missiles at areas South of Damascus.

On may 10, Iranian forces in Syria fired 20 rockets at Israel’s positions in the Golan heights, followed by a massive retaliatory attack on Syrian territory. Clashes between the sides continued.
