It is incorrect to speak about the Kremlin’s refusal to pardon convicted in Russia Director Oleg Sentsov, said press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov. It was quoted by RIA Novosti on Wednesday, August 15.
“You know that there is current legislation, and you know that can use the phrase “to deny clemency” is probably incorrect from a legal point of view, because there was no request for pardon — Peskov said when asked to comment on the message about the alleged Kremlin’s refusal to pardon.
On 9 August, the official representative of the Kremlin has informed that the letter to the mother of the Ukrainian Director, in which she asks for pardon of his son, came to the administration of the President.
Previously Peskov, commenting on the appeal of 12 workers of culture with a request to pardon Sentsov, said that the convict himself must initiate this issue.
Sentsov was sentenced by a Russian court to 20 years in prison on charges of organizing terrorist acts in the Crimea. His guilt he does not recognize, in mid-may hunger strike.
