The German government has recognized the third gender

The German government has passed a bill allowing to specify in the books of registration of acts of civil status of a third gender. This is stated on the website of the Ministry of internal Affairs of the country.

According to the project, along with graphs gender “male” and “female”, will be another one. “The law should provide for a positive filling of the column “gender” for people with changes. The bill provides that the Registrar may use the word “intersex”, in addition to the already presented options,” — said in the Ministry.

As noted on the Twitter page of the office, now the document needs to address the Bundestag (Parliament).

Changes are made in accordance with the decision of the constitutional court of Germany of November 2017. According to his verdict, the column “gender” should not be limited by the options of male or female. The necessary amendments to legislation should be introduced until 31 December 2018.

Estimates of the ethics Council, Germany has about 80 thousand intersex people. Since November 2013 in Germany, the law according to which the column “gender” in the birth certificate can be left blank.

On 29 June it was reported that the Austrian constitutional court took a positive decision on registration in the documents of paragraph “third gender” for intersex people. The intersex — various combinations of male and female sexual characteristics that occur as humans and animals. Intersex-people have sexual characteristics (including genitals, gonads and chromosomes) that do not fit into the traditional binary system.
