Ukraine is ready to repel “a full-scale aggression” from Russia. With such statement in interview “Bi-bi-si Ukraine” was made by the chief of the General staff of the Armed forces of Ukraine (AFU) Viktor Muzhenko.
According to him, the solution to the armed conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of the country is in the political arena. “There is a relevant initiative of the Ukrainian side, which involve many steps. Unfortunately, they do not support the Russian side”, — said Muzhenko.
“Based on the analysis of the situation, this is not a frozen conflict, it’s hot conflict”, — said the military.
Muzhenko also believes that the presence of the Ukrainian naval forces in the waters of the Azov sea should be strengthened. “We plan not only to strengthen presence in the sea, but also to conduct activities for the defense of the coast of the Azov sea. In the sea on their own and means there are guards, but sure to be some build-up of military presence of forces of the Navy”, he said.
The chief of staff indicated that there is a need to resupply units APU mortars with caliber of 120 mm, the application of which in the zone of conflict in Donbass prohibited by the Minsk agreements. “This work is carried out. Quite a large number of them have already joined the army,” — said Muzhenko.
“We are ready to respond not only to the format of the Minsk agreements, we are preparing to repel a full-scale aggression, therefore, provided for the fitting of the units according to these needs,” he concluded.
The armed conflict in the Donbas began in the spring of 2014 after Kiev attempted to suppress statements in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions caused by the change of power in Ukraine. Kiev regularly accuses of meddling in the conflict Russia. In the Kremlin deny these allegations, citing a lack of evidence.
