The Minister of infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan in the air “5 channel” explained what his Department proposes to abolish the railway communication with Russia.

“In war no question of any normal cooperation with Russia can not go. Like it or not like it, but the actions of Ukraine should be tough and adequate. One of those items that we offer to the government for approval, the cancellation of passenger train service,” said Omeljan.

According to the Minister, such a step of Kiev “to protect Ukrainians, who are at your own risk still go to Russia where they can be stolen or fall into the clutches of the FSB or other law enforcement agencies.” “We see these cases more frequent”, — he said.

“Secondly, and this is the key: if we are at war — there is nothing to go there. (…) The Russian-Ukrainian friendship and there never was. Was or permanent occupation, or simply mass murder,” — said Omeljan.

The Minister also said that the closure of air links with Russia in October 2015 matter for the benefit of Ukraine. “We were told that the collapse of the Ukrainian aviation. In contrast, passenger traffic has doubled. Ukrainians are willing to fly, and on the contrary, aviation is developing. I am convinced that the same thing will happen with rail and bus links,” he said.

16 Aug Omeljan announced new restrictions between Ukraine and Russia. “Today we signed a historical document. In Moscow will only go bears, just like old times,” he said, emphasizing that the restrictions will concern not only passenger rail service between the two countries.

At the beginning of the month, the Minister said that Kiev is considering the option of termination of railway communication with Moscow. He later reported that the authorities intend to discontinue passenger-only railway communication with Russia, cargo traffic restrictions will not affect. Also Omeljan stressed that the Ministry of infrastructure has sent its proposals for consideration to the government.
