The “big four” mobile operators in Russia — MTS, MegaFon, VimpelCom and Tele2, cancel intra network roaming to the beginning of autumn. On Monday, August 20, reports TASS.
The first will waive roaming “VimpelCom”, he will begin to change after August 20. On August 30 the necessary measures will conduct MTS, and from September 1 — “MegaFon”. Tele2 has promised to complete the process until August 31.
In July the state Duma in the first reading adopted the draft law on the abolition of roaming on the territory of Russia. It implies the abolition of fees for calls from one region to another. The document will amend article 53 of the Federal law “On communications”. It is planned introduction of the “unified rate for Telecom services” throughout the country.
Roaming was introduced to compensate for loss of cellular companies that initially used for communication connection via a single nationwide operator, causing increased costs.
The Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS) has assured that the abolition of roaming charges in Russia will not lead to an increase in the cost of communications services. However, in anticipation of the abolition of internal roaming charges many mobile operators have dramatically changed the conditions and began to introduce a new line of tariffs without reference to the region.
