Planned November elections in the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk national republics (DND and LNR) will be postponed indefinitely. On Monday, August 20, according to RBC.
Such a decision the leaders of the republics have agreed on with Moscow. Close to the Kremlin, the interlocutor of RBC said that at this step, the authorities went because of a number of reasons — lack of a direct need in the re-election of deputies and the leadership of the DNI and the LC, the risk for negotiations on the conflict settlement and the prospects for new sanctions.
The real preparation for the elections in the DNI and LC for the last time it was not Moscow did not give direct instructions about this, in addition, this process was not allocated money.
Close to the authorities of the DNI to the source of RBC reported that from Moscow to Donetsk in the summer came the social scientists engaged in the analysis of moods in the Republic. Slice of public opinion “has been very unfavorable for the current team”, stressed the source.
Information about the postponement of the elections was confirmed by the Council of Ministers of the DNI. According to the interlocutor of “Interfax”, among the reasons for migration as problems with financing and coming in 2019 presidential elections, after which the approach of Kiev to implement the Minsk agreements may change. In the government LNR said that the vote may be postponed to 2019.
Formally, the decision to postpone the election of the heads of DND and LNR not yet decorated. Final decision will be made after the next meeting of the contact group on the Donbas held in Minsk on August 22.
