Russians will be able to pay for purchases in online stores using the e-mail addresses from 2019. Additional details of Bank cards, for example number, expiration date or CVV code entry is not required. On Monday, August 29, according to “Izvestia”, citing a source at the Central Bank.
Buyers will need to download a special application, which develops the Association of “FINTECH”. It will allow you to bind the data of credit and debit cards to e-mail. The Central Bank assured that the program as will protect against break-ins.
Experts reacted to the initiative were generally positive. According to the head of the IT unit of the Bank “Opening” Sergey Rusanov, when paying, the customer may indicate less data, which will reduce the risk of aggressive advertising. In addition, this payment method will not allow the fraudsters to gather information on phishing resources, said the Deputy head of the laboratory of computer forensics, Group-IB Sergey Nikitin.
At the same time, the service may not be entirely reliable for users. “Payment by entering the e-mail can carry high security risks if the user’s password to the mail account, e.g. “11111111” or the same name as the mailbox, which often happens. In addition, email is often hacked, users forget to change passwords”, — said Director of consulting CC InfoWatch Maria Voronova. She added that these items must be considered.
“Phystech” together with the Bank of Russia is working on other methods of identification, for example, by a mobile phone. In addition, the Association develops other types of instant payments, such as transfers between your accounts in different banks, and others.
