About 160 thousand participants in the armed conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine is ready to return to the Donbass. This statement on Wednesday, August 22, by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, reports “Gordon”.
“Almost 160 thousand combatants currently in the operational reserve of the first stage… It’s the number one commitment again if necessary to take up arms, to take it skillfully and professionally, to a high degree of training. And I’m not in the least doubt that each of you is ready to become operational again. But I don’t want to the country ever again came the war,” — said the Ukrainian leader.
Poroshenko assured that Kiev will fight only for peace and for the Ukrainian land. All in all, according to him, in armed conflict from Ukraine took part 344 thousand people, who for “four and a half years persevered in the struggle with a cruel, strong and treacherous aggressor” and are now the guarantor of the independence of Ukraine.
“We realize that Ukraine for four and a half years paid a very high price in the struggle for independence. Thousands of dead, the victims of the Ukrainian soldiers, volunteers, volunteers, who were killed by snipers bullets, artillery shells, mortars and rocket launchers, and thousands of civilians. Tens of thousands of wounded and those who received a severe psychological trauma” — quoted Poroshenko “UKRINFORM”.
The Ukrainian leader promised that the Ukrainian army will be one of the strongest in Europe. “We completely re-engineering the entire security sector including the Armed forces, fully to NATO standards. And the main message that I brought back from the NATO summit — NATO’s doors are open for Ukraine, what would it say Russia. And the key message for Russia: you can’t stop Euro-Atlantic integration of our state,” he said.
“There is still a lot of work, and certainly will not be easy to anyone. None of this I promise I will not, but our army will be one of the strongest in Europe because the Ukrainians today do know what they are fighting”, — said Poroshenko.
The armed conflict in the Donbas began in the spring of 2014 after Kiev attempted to suppress statements in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions caused by the change of power in Ukraine. Kiev regularly accuses of meddling in the conflict Russia. In the Kremlin deny the existence in the East of Ukraine the regular units of the Russian Armed forces.
