The Kremlin does not agree with the words of Advisor to the President for national security John Bolton that Russia is mired in Syria, said the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov. It was quoted by RIA Novosti on Wednesday, August 22.

“Russia, indeed, plays a very active role in rescuing Syria from international terrorism from ISIS (“Islamic state” is forbidden on the territory of the Russian Federation extremist group — approx. “Of the”) and other terrorist groups — and the withdrawal of Syria into the mainstream of political-diplomatic regulation. (…) Russia is also actively promoting the return of refugees to Syria and the beginning of the reconstruction process of the country. To say that Russia is somewhere stuck, it is incorrect”, — said Peskov.

The representative of the Kremlin noted that it is particularly strange to hear such statements from the United States, because the American military is also in Syria.

Earlier John Bolton said that Russia is “stuck” in Syria and looking for someone who will be able to Finance its postwar recovery. In his opinion, this gives Washington an advantage in the negotiations with Moscow.

Russia launched a military operation in Syria in 2015 at the request of President Bashar al-Assad. By that time, clashes between government troops and rebels continued in Syria for four years. In 2016, the Russian leader Vladimir Putin submitted to the state Duma a bill on ratification of the agreement between Russia and Syria on the indefinite deployment of troops in the area Hamim.
