The head of the IOC told about the threat of cancellation of the Olympic games-2018

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach said that the Olympic games 2018 in South Korea could not take place because of the nuclear tests conducted by North Korea. His words are quoted by insidethegames.

“To cancel the Games do not have to start a war. It would be enough for one of the countries refused to participate in the Olympics due to the fact that they consider it impossible to guarantee the safety of their athletes,” said Bach. He added that such decision was inclined USA.

“The negotiations were very basic, speaking diplomatically. Were we close to ending? Yes, very close,” concluded the President of the IOC.

Team USA in the medal standings of the Olympic games took fourth place, winning nine gold, eight silver and six bronze medals. North and South Korea announced joint team of athletes.

Games were held in Pyeongchang from 9 to 25 February 2018. As the participants were 92 countries. Admitted to the Games, the Russian athletes were in a neutral status.
