Advisor to the us President for national security John Bolton said that Ukraine is still a lot to do for NATO membership. He said this at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday, August 24, writes Reuters.
According to him, it is essential to resolve the crisis in the South-East of the country, and to leave in its current state the situation with the Crimea and Donbass — it is dangerous. “I think that there is progress, but more needs to be done”, — quotes its words of RIA Novosti.
Bolton added that much depends on Kiev and how it will perform political and military requirements of the Alliance.
Earlier the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has promised to create the strongest army in Europe. He also said that “the main message (…) with the NATO summit — NATO’s doors are open for Ukraine, what would it say Russia”.
In June 2017 Kiev called foreign policy priority membership in NATO. However, in March this year, the special envoy of the US state Department for Affairs of Ukraine declared that the country is not ready to join the Alliance.
