Leonid Kalashnikovo: RIA Novosti
Treaty of friendship between Russia and Ukraine no longer has much sense, so the gap will not lead to serious consequences. This was stated by the head of the Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov, reports on Tuesday, August 28, RIA Novosti.
“Moral and political obligations will not be for Russia to carry out any agreement,” he added.
According to him, the termination of the contract by one of the parties must declare their intent before the end of October — in this case the agreement is not extended. Kalashnikov noted that it was proposed in the state Duma, but, according to him, the Russian side is not necessary to do so.
“If the Ukrainians will insist and do it, it will be on their conscience,” — said the MP.
Earlier Tuesday, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed the Ministry of foreign Affairs to prepare for the rupture of the Treaty of friendship, cooperation and partnership with Russia. The foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin has promised that Kiev will officially report their intent to the end of September, reports TASS.
The Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Russia and Ukraine was signed in may 1997. At the end of 2008, the document was extended for another 10 years.
