The Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu announced the largest since the times of Leonid Brezhnev’s military exercises, which involved about 300 thousand soldiers and about 36 thousand units of ground equipment. It is reported RIA Novosti on Tuesday, August 28.
“They’re saying “West-81″, but something perhaps even bigger,” said Shoigu.
According to him, the maneuvers under the name “Vostok-2018” will take place from 11 to 15 September in almost all ranges of the Central and Eastern military districts. They will participate in the Pacific and Northern fleets will be fully deployed airborne.
Military exercises “West-81” took place from 4 to 12 September 1981 on the territory of Belarus, Kiev and the Baltic military districts, as well as in the Baltic sea. In addition to the Soviet Union, the exercises were also carried out on the territory of several friendly countries. During manevrov were first tested the automated control system and some types of precision weapons.
