The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed the Ministry of foreign Affairs to prepare for the rupture of the Treaty of friendship, cooperation and partnership with Russia. He stated this on Tuesday, August 28, reports “European true”.
“Today we have come sufficiently prepared and legally protected, the next step is the termination of the Agreement on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, which is the fault of Moscow has already become an anachronism” — he said during a meeting with heads of foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine added that the foreign Ministry has already received the corresponding order in the near future Kiev will carry out the necessary steps. “In the near future is expected from the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine the documents required for such actions”, — he stressed.
Poroshenko also recalled the importance of obtaining economic and energy independence of Ukraine from Russia and promotion to receive the Tomos of autocephaly for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. “We are continuing the thread by thread tear the web, in which the Russian tsars, and later the red Bolshevism centuries systematically entangled freedom-loving Ukrainian soul”, — he said.
The Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Russia and Ukraine was signed in may 1997. At the end of 2008, the document was extended for another 10 years. In mid-March the Ukrainian foreign Ministry has prepared several options for suspension. It was noted that Kiev can go on partial or full suspension and termination of the agreement.
Relations between Kyiv and Moscow deteriorated sharply after the reunification of the Crimea with Russia in March 2014 and the beginning of the conflict in the Donbass in April of the same year. Ukraine accuses Moscow regularly in the conduct of hostilities in the South-East of its territory and calls the aggressor, the Kremlin denies the accusations, pointing to the lack of evidence.
