On the background of the accelerated melting of Arctic ice is actively developing navigation, reports TASS with reference to Bloomberg. So, in the last two months of shift settlement of Sabetta in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous district was sent to 34 tankers in Europe, and three to the East.
This year because of rising exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) increased traffic along the Northern sea route (NSR), and the first tankers were able to get through it without icebreakers — this significantly reduced the time and cost of export of raw materials from remote fields in Siberia.
Used for transporting a vessel is a specially built ice-class tankers Arc7 who can swim to Europe without an escort icebreaker all year round, and in Asia in summer. The first such carrier — “Christophe de Margerie” — made LNG supply from Yamal to the EU in late 2017. In the beginning of 2018 tanker “Eduard toll” for the first time went along the entire Northern sea route in winter. His route through the Arctic to France it got shorter alternative via the Suez canal about three thousand nautical miles.
According to forecasts by Bloomberg, a provider of hydrocarbons Yamal LNG due to the project will be able to save for the second half of 2018, 46 million dollars. According to analysts of the Agency, by 2023, the magnitude of savings from using the Arctic route will triple.
According to the Russian Federal Agency of sea and river transport the volume of freight traffic along the NSR in 2017 amounted to 9,93 million tons. The government intends to increase this figure to 80 million tons by 2024.
