The Syrian army broke the defense line of the militants of the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG banned in Russia) in the province of as-Suwayda. About it reports on Wednesday, August 29, Al Masdar News.

According to the newspaper, started the day two divisions stormed the rebel positions in the area of Javi-Awad, located in the Northern part of the region of Al-Safa. Military sources said that the attack of government forces will be successful, because the military managed to recapture a strategic dam.

It is noted that this is an important step for the Syrian army: Islamic state terrorists are cut off from the last water source in the Syrian desert. Without drinking, and given the limited amount of food, the militant group, most likely, will not continue to keep under control this part of the province, the newspaper writes.

A day earlier it was reported that terrorists detained in Syria’s Idlib province — the only region of the country, which is still not controlled by the government — two thousand people, advocating the conclusion of a truce with the authorities.

Armed conflict in Syria began in 2011. It involves government forces, acting on the side of President Bashar al-Assad, moderate opposition and various Islamist groups. In recent months there are increasing reports about the truce and the surrender of weapons by militants.
