Russia’s participation in the project of the future international lunar Gateway station, involving the creation of a gateway module, humiliating for the country, told RIA Novosti Director General — chief designer of scientific and production enterprise “Star” Sergei Pozdnyakov.
“The previous leadership of the Roscosmos gave the green light to manufacture a gateway module that has caused a lot of surprise — do the empty barrel for the Americans, of course, humiliating. The new leadership declared that it will not go, and we’ll explore the moon,” said the head.
In September the General Director “Rosatom” Dmitry Rogozin stated that Russia will not participate in the Gateway project on the sidelines. He added that a lunar station could be created in conjunction with the BRICS countries. At the same time, NASA recognized that a leading role in the Gateway belongs to the United States.
In the same month, cosmonaut Oleg Kotov told TASS that at the present time the Russian crew on the ISS consists of two, not three, as earlier, due to the lack of funds for the launch of the cargo spacecraft “Progress”.
In April, RIA Novosti reported with reference to anonymous source in the rocket and space industry reported that the US and partners insist on the use of Russia when you create a gateway module for Gateway which should be the main contribution of Russia to the draft, the U.S. technical standards. At the same interviewee expressed the view that Western countries would like to exclude Russia from the project due to delays in technological cycles of manufacturing space technology.
In the same month, rocket and space Corporation Energia proposed to create a gateway module for Gateway due to the US or the EU as a Federal space program until 2025 funds for the establishment airlock module for the international lunar station is not provided.
In April 2014, Rogozin, occupying the post of Deputy Prime Minister, called the colonization of the moon a strategic challenge.
Talks on creation of a lunar station started in 2013. In September 2017 the United States and Russia signed the agreement on intentions on creation of a lunar station Gateway. The construction of the plant is scheduled for 2022, the accession of the Russian airlock module to it — by 2024.
