Caffeine reduces the size of the fetus in pregnant women. It found Irish scientists, the results of their study are published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
Experts analyzed data from 941 mothers and their children. It was found that almost half (48 percent) of pregnant women the main source of caffeine was tea, slightly more than a third (38 per cent) were drinking coffee.
As a result, scientists saw this: every extra one hundred milligrams of caffeine per day during the first trimester, weight of the newborn was less than 72 grams. Had decreased growth and length, head circumference, gestational age (time that the child spent in the womb from the moment of conception — approx. “Of the tape.ru”) was reduced.
Mothers who consumed a lot of caffeine, the newborn weighed 170 grams less than those who drank coffee and tea to a minimum. In addition, women who abuse caffeinated beverages, often faced with complications in childbirth.
As a rule of the experts took the mark of 200 milligrams per day. Scientists say that even a small dose of caffeine affect the fetus.
