Negotiations with Japan on a peace agreement is complicated by the fact that Tokyo supports the Western sanctions against Moscow. The talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took place in Moscow on January 22. Later, the Kremlin noted the invariance of the positions of the parties. The Japanese Agency reported that Moscow and Tokyo are exploring the possibility to include a paragraph on security assurances. This is due to allied commitments of Japan to the United States.
