The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko inclined to make empty promises without fulfilling the previous one. This opinion was expressed by the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the statement of the Ukrainian leader about the need for peace with Russia, reports RIA Novosti.
Zakharova noted that Poroshenko already had a chance to establish peace in the country and to improve relations with other countries — for this he had to fulfill the Minsk agreements. However, this chance the Ukrainian leader did not use, she said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Poroshenko said that Ukraine needs peace with Russia because the people of the country are tired of war. He stressed that he was not going to kneel in front of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that Moscow should recognize Kiev’s right to go his own way.
Relations between Moscow and Kiev deteriorated in 2014 amid the beginning of the conflict in the Donbass and Crimea became part of Russia. Ukrainian authorities believe the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people’s Republic, which controls part of the territories in the East, occupied territories of Russia. Also Kiev does not recognize the legitimate referendum on the status of Crimea in which the residents were in favour of joining region in Russia, and believes the Peninsula was annexed. In Moscow insist that the accession of the region conform to the norms of international law.
