Matvienko spoke about the status of the detained Senator

The Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said that the detained Senator Rauf Arashukov wanted to leave the room during the vote on lifting his immunity. It is reported RIA Novosti on Wednesday, January 30.

The head of the upper house of Parliament said that while a member of the Federation Council of Karachay-Cherkessia lost his senatorial powers. Matvienko explained that this happens in two cases: either he will write a letter of resignation, or the court finds him guilty of a crime.

Matvienko emphasized that the events in which the accused Arashukov, was until his appointment a member of the Federation Council. “Whom to appoint a member of SF, it is the responsibility of the Governor and legislative Assembly,” she said.

Chairman of the Federation Council added that Rauf Arashukov refused to take the allotted word, to clarify what is happening.

Rauf Arashukov detained on 30 January at the meeting of the Council of Federation in the presence of the Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika and Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin. The Senator was charged, among them assassinations and destabilization of the situation in the KCR.
