Bulgaria will join the gas pipeline to bypass Ukraine

The Bulgarian state company “Bulgartransgaz” announced the completion of the competition for the allocation of capacities of the future site of the gas transportation system of the country, said in a statement.

“After the achieved positive result of economic test “Bulgartransgaz” made a final investment decision on the implementation of the “Project of development and expansion gazobetona system” [in the direction of the Bulgarian-Serbian border], according to which will sign binding contracts with the candidates who applied,” — said in the message.

It is also noted that applications were filed by three unnamed companies, which in the near future will be concluded binding contracts for the supply of fuel. It is emphasized that the area will be met with competition among suppliers, which means that the conditions of the Third European energy package will be fulfilled.

Later “Gazprom” has informed that also participated in the competition and booked capacity, the Agency “Prime”. The exact amount and terms of the agreements the company did not disclose.

The new stretch of Bulgarian gas transmission system will become part of the construction of the pipeline “Turkish stream”, which will supply Russian gas to bypass Ukraine simultaneously with the two branches of the “Nord stream”. Construction completion is scheduled for late 2019.
