Citizens who give information in a single biometric system (EBS), were misled by the actions of the banks. This was announced by the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina, quoted by “Interfax”.
The confusion is due to the fact that some banks are developing their own system of collection of biometric data (e.g., Sberbank). Their customers think, do biometrics for a single system and expect that will be able to get the service in other financial organizations, but be wrong. Now the regulator is looking for ways to solve this problem. The connection of all the branches of Russian banks is planned for late 2019.
According to Nabiullina, the Central Bank is interested in customer-centric practice of gathering biometric data. “Now biometrics are technically able to take four thousand Bank branches. But, as shown by the work in the second half of last year, banks certainly need more time to equip their offices with the necessary equipment for implementing the requirements for information security”, — said the head of the Central Bank. Despite customer interest in new technology, test it, yet that confirms an inconvenient format.
The collection of biometric data in Russian banks began on 1 July 2018. Data is stored in EBS, the operator of which is JSC “Rostelecom”. With the help of this system customers will be able to obtain financial services remotely at any Bank. There were also the disadvantages of this mechanism that are associated with the safety of personal data. It may allow cyber criminals to act on behalf of others.
Earlier, first Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Olga Skorobogatova told about the contradictions that arise between the regulator and the savings Bank. One of the main is the situation with the collection of biometric data of Russians described Nabiullina.
